Farmer, BJP and the Secular Media
India Forum: Comments, Opinion - Information Resource
News Summary: Barely 10 days, into governing its first state in South India, the BJP again finds itself in the backfoot over the reported police firing which killed a solitary farmer, and injured three others. The Times of India, in its edition of 10th June 2008 had already reported that twin cities of Dharwad and Hubli witnessed trouble on Monday. If we reconstruct the events according to the news report; a group of farmers were protesting against fertilizer shortage. I might remind the reader that the entire.....read more in: Farmer, BJP and the Secular Media

8 Parimal on Wednesday, June 25, 2008 :

Why blame BJP only? Hycrisy has become the way of doing business. The attrocites committed by the Communist government of West Bengal on Nandigram will never be forgotten. Thinking about those who are labourers and farmers and who toil hard in the limited land they have got has become a thing of the past for the CPM leaders in Kolkata. We need to watch the capitalistic brand of CPM in West Bengal. They favour capitalists, not the poor workers.
7 A.Moron on Monday, June 16, 2008 :

Haldia plant was constructed but was not allowed to produce even one gram of fertiliser, but closed down, costing millions of tax payers money. Barauni and Sndri plants were running well. You are a doctor, so you do not understand the economics of the public sector industries. As these are in the core sectors serving all other industries and agricultrure, they were not allowed to charge more than their cost of production and sometime even less than the cost of production in order to subsidise other industries and agriculture. That was the reason price of steel during the plan period was much less than what it is today. Thus, loss of the public sector does not mean inefficiency but these are subsidies for the downstream industries and agriculture. Today, the public sector oil companies are running at a great loss in order to subsidise the economy, whereas the private sectot oil companies are allowed to make gigantic profit. Narasimha Rao"s son and nephew have started importing fertiliser at a great cost of the tax payers, but they became billionaires. This the MonMohan economics, which BJP also has promoted with more interest with wholesale privatisation and closures of public sector. We are paying the price of that today.
6 Dr. Saurav Basu on Monday, June 16, 2008 :

All these fertilizer plants due to trademark public sector neptotism, bureacracy and corruption were sick and running huge losses. Sustaining them on the exchequer"s paycheque would have been criminal. And do you have a single document to prove that India was not importing fertilizer prior to the disinvestment of these fertilizer plants. Also, excessive use of fertilizers may prove catastrophic in the years to come.
5 A.Moron on Thursday, June 12, 2008 :

The fertiliser plants in Haldia, Sindri, Barauni were shut down, as the BJP government felt it was chaper to import fertiliser, as the price was low because of low oil prices at that time. BJP has shut down the Special Alloy Plant in Durgapur and made arrangement to sell both Durgapur Steel plant and ISSCO burnpur steel plants, but they lost the election. These are facts. Only RamVilas Paswan saved these steel plants and opened again the fertiliser plants, but it normally take a long time to rejuvinate a closed plant. Now the price of fertiliser is sky high because of much higher oil prices. Thus, the short sighted policy to close down public sector plants are responsible for the current situation. I am not blaming BJP for everything, certainly the Congress is responsible for the current inflation by allowing short term borrowings from abroad and not collecting taxes and defaluted loans.
4 Truth Speaks on Thursday, June 12, 2008 :

A Moron, Think twice before commenting. I know you are BJP hater, but it is ridiculous to blame BJP for every problem India is facing today.
3 Truth Speaks on Thursday, June 12, 2008 :

The SICK and SLAVE minded SECULAR media is trying hard to defame BJP at all costs to help their owner Sonia Gandhi. I am sure a dedicated RSS man like Yeddyurappa expose the conspirators of this unfortunate farmer killing.
2 g kapuria on Thursday, June 12, 2008 :

AM... I thought that the disinvestment commission under the BJP govt only sold the plants to private businesses. Are you suggesting that they did not sell these plants, just shut them down? That would have created huge uprising, and I do not remember any such reports. Perhaps the disinvested plants were closed by their private owners, if so, how is the BJP govt responsible?
1 A.Moron on Wednesday, June 11, 2008 :

to The Author: You are a doctor, so you do not follow economic news at all. BJP government has closed down most of the fertiliser plants in India: in Sindri, Barauni, Haldia etc and started importing fertiser as the importers would pay bribes. Now the world fertiliser price is sky high because of increased price of oil. That was reason Ram Vilas Paswas has opened up again those fertiser plants but it would take some time to revive those. Thus, you cannot take the blame away from the previous BJP government who was selling and closing down all public sector industries, which are vital for the country.
