I am an Indian-American. I live in California. In California we are lucky if we get 30 inches of rain per year, yet we have water available 24 hours a day everyday of the year. In India we get 100 inches of rain and yet there is always a shortage of water. So, we actually have plenty of water, we just don"t have the infrastructure to store it properly. Ultimately, water is more valuable than oil or even gold. Countries like India are blessed with this abundant resource. There will be a time in the future when many "dry" countries will be willing to pay a big price for water. If conserved properly water could become India"s most valuable export - like oil is for the Middle East. We know the path of the monsoons, we need to construct huge reservoirs along that path and we will have plenty of water for domestic use and plenty left over for export. Can anyone explain why this is not being done?
1 M Patel on May-02 :

Any water management seminar held in india should emphasize the fact the india is a "MONSOON" country. Unfortunately, Most seminars fail to do so. The fault lies with macaulyite education system which discourages independent thinking and encourages blind aping(*). So kids who grew up singing nursery rhyme "Rain Rain Go Away" would oppose irrigation projects without understanding reality of monsoon which is beautifully captured in indian languaage nursery rhymes "Aawre Varshad..." (ie. welcome rain as cloud"s prasad).

(*) Apes might be offended by some of the blind copying done by rootless indian journalists/macaulyite. On seeing a britisher hugging his mother, An ape would hug his own mother. However, Indian macaulyite would hug britisher"s mother and hate his indian mother. For example, Jaitirth Rao is an indian-express columnist and a self-proclaimed indian-conservative. He supports american-conservative agenda and opposes indian-conversative agenda.

g kapuria on Friday : I strongly disagree. Secularists are the biggest threat to India. They shelter the fundamentalist muslims and christians. Secularist newsmedia do not report their misdeeds, which gives goondas like Bal and Raj Thackeray a platform.

Truth Speaks on Apr-30 : Congress gaining foothold in UP, Bihar? [1 comments]

Both BJP and Congress are gaining in UP at the expense of SP and BSP. Almost all media is saying it. But in Bihar, the Congress can grow only at the expense of RJD and LJP. Because CM Nitish Kumar(JD-U) and Sushil Modi(BJP) have a very clean image and running the government much much better than Lalu.
