Mumbai meet: New Hindu Renaissance
India Forum: Comments, Opinion - Information Resource
News Summary: Dr Swamy sums this up as: We Hindus are under siege today; and we do not know it !! That is, what is truly alarming is that Hindu society could be dissembled today without much protest since we have been lulled into or lost the capacity to think and act collectively as Hindus. Hindus of India and the World unite! We have nothing to lose but our chains! We have to wage a heroic cultural and intellectual war against lethal International forces that have come together today to destroy Sanatana Dhar.....read more in: Mumbai meet: New Hindu Renaissance

1. The Buddha: Would anyone doubt that if the Buddha had been born in Europe or Muslim lands in the middle ages, he would have been branded a heretic and burned at the stake, dying a horrible death? There would be no Buddhism today! And what do we Hindus do to the man who rejected Hinduism? Why, make him a God, of course! Imagine the greatness of a faith that saw divinity in a man who rejects it"s teachings!

2. Status of Women: Hinduism is the only major religion to pray to a female form of God, giving equal status to women! In most other religions women are treated as second-class, asking them to be subservient to their men. It is quite clear that these religions were regurgitating the prevailing view of their time, women were considered weak and inferior to men (200 years ago women couldn"t even vote!). How mind-boggling is that, Hinduism, born thousands of years earlier, is giving women equality! Truly divine inspiration at work here!

3. Purity and Virginity: Religions have been accused of teaching backward values. At one time Purity was associated with Virginity, Mary was pure because she was a Virgin. In the middle ages women were forced to wear chastity belts. But once again, a faith thousands of years older, made no connection between Purity and Virginity. Draupadi, married to 5 husbands, was called a Pativrata, the pure one. Savithri, who won her husband back from the arms of Yama, was also a Pativrata. Purity was based on character, not physical characteristics.

4. Talking about religions being out of step with present values - if you were a hiring manager and refused to hire someone because of their religion, in most countries you would be hauled into court and jailed! Yet some religions teach that their god does exactly the same thing! He runs heavens limited to members of his religion only! You could be a Mahatma Gandhi, Albert Einstein, but there is no room in his heaven for you. Hinduism teaches us that character matters! All good souls, regardless of religion are welcome in God Rama"s heaven!

5. Science: christinity still struggles with the findings of Darwin, insisting that the earth is 5,000 years old, denying evolution. Hinduism teaches us that the earth is over 10 billion years old! Hinduism teaches us that Brahma, a metaphor for the Universe, has been born and died several times. Scientists now say that there could be several universes, some dying while new ones are being created. Again, how mind-boggling is it that a faith several thousands of years old, coming to the same conclusion!

6. Almost all Hindu Gods are pictured accompanied by an animal. These images are teaching us to respect all nature. The images also show God in various forms, not only male and female, but as a Lingam, Halfman-HalfLion, Halfmale-Halffemale(Ardhanariswara), Gods with several arms and heads. What these images are teaching us is that God could come to us in any form. Muslims say that God is formless, we Hindus say that God is not only formless but could also appear before us in any form. How small are some religions to teach that God can only be a man and can only be addressed by just one name!

7. The concept of hell has always bothered me - God using torture and physical punishment to teach us some sort of lesson does not sound right. With torture one can make anyone do or say whatever one wants, in fact, that is what we do with criminals. We put them in jail and in some cases physical torture is used. Some muslim countries have started to use Sharia law, using the whip against even women, cutting of hands and legs etc. Do we think that God follows the same stupid policy? Again, it is quite clear that there is no divinity here, humans regurgitating methods used by them and attributing them to God. Amazingly, Hinduism has come up with a refreshingly different way for humans to become better people - Karma and Rebirth! Moksha, a pure enlightened state, is the goal of every Hindu, and until you reach this stage, you are born again and again, each time receiving a new lesson from God, our Guru. For evil acts one may have committed, one is reborn and made to learn life"s lessons over and over again. People mistakenly believe that Karma means that we are punished for the sinful acts of a previous life - but that is the wrong view. Physical punishment does not make you a better student, instead God patiently teaches you to correct your ways! Karma also forces you to take responsibility. Other religions have a King god who forgives your evil acts, it"s like a criminal being brought before a judge and the judge simply lets him go after a stern lecture. Has the criminal learnt anything? Has he changed? Not at all. What kind of a message is that to send to the victims of this criminal? But with Karma, there is no God to forgive away your sins, it is upto you to correct the mistak....

Hindu renaissance cannot come to effect if it is limited to one-time speech-making. Hindus must organize such meetings all the time, and bring the message to every Hindu in the country.

Excellent and well written article. We Hindus need our own TV,Radio, and Newspapers to countr anti-Hindu propaganda to unite and fight for the rights of Hindus in India. We Hindus have sufferd to long at the hands of various invaders. Its time we Hindus enjoyed our hard earned freedom and religion.

Thank you for the great article. I have been preaching to anyone who would listen that we Hindus should start proselytizing. We should not just sit back while other religions run around spreading their brand of hate.

When terrorists shoot or bomb innocents, they shout that they are doing this in the name of their God. One must understand that these are King Religions, God made in the image of a King. If a king orders his soldiers to kill women and children, then so be it. In the olden days, most kings were mostly men, so God must be a man. When men were brought before the King, they fell to their knees and shook with fear, hence "Fear of God". Easier to rule subjects when they debase themselves as sinners. The King was judge and jury, "salvation" was within his hands. A King does not share his throne; there can be only one King. Every Country"s history is littered with stories of Kings who murdered their own Kith and Kin; even children were not to be spared. In such a brutal world, loyalty was the highest virtue. Loyalists were rewarded and disloyal ones, even good people, abused, threatened and put to death. Hence a segregated heaven, where entrance is limited to followers, with non-followers cast into hell. This is why Christian and muslim lands gave rise to just one religion each while Hindu India is a polyglot of various faiths. Doomsdayers, terrorists and cults mostly arise from these King religions who claim to be following the King"s orders, hence the reason why muslim countries have so much trouble with the concept of democracy. When one is just a subject or soldier in the king"s army, personal responsibility is abdicated.

The Hindu/Buddhist God is a Parent/Teacher God. A Hindu/Buddhist should never, never, fear God. To Hindus/Buddhists the ultimate goal is not a flesh-happy heaven but Moksha or Enlightenment. God is our teacher in this journey towards enlightenment. A teacher wants his students to ask questions, explore fresh & different ideas, be open-minded and respect differing ideas. Reason why Hindu India is a vibrant democracy. A teacher does not simply give the answer to a student but will point the student to the right path. Hence there is no "King" to simply wash away all our "sins", but a journey thru several life times in search of truth and enlightenment. Karma and rebirth do away with a King "God" who runs a hell, instead asking us to take personal responsibility for our actions, and take steps to better ourselves. Let"s teach that there is no such thing as Hell, a place where "God" tortures humans. Karma and rebirth is the better way.

Sohan"s point (i.e. "Dharma"s rules by the book" and "Authority to award titles") is indeed a very popular misconception spread by fabian-stalinist forces.

Dharma is not an abrahamic faith. There is neither a sharia nor a cannon to follow. There is neither A-BOOK nor compulsory COMMANDMENDS. There is no central PAPACY with exclusive license to award titles and sainthood. In fact, One aspect of Shri Krishna"s life and work is about "Not Blindly following a rule".

Wonder, who is the authority that awards the titles these "swamis" are using? In what Varnasharma stage each of them belongs to? And, whether they follow the Dharma"s rules by the book or take short cuts - do what feels "Right"?

They appear to be past 50 years in age; therefore, they should be in the Vanaprastha ashram - retirement from the society and living in a forest.

BTW, wonder, if the author of the article intends to follow the rules? Did he retire at 50 and entered vanasprastha? Will he be taking sanyas on attaining 75 years?

Just wondering!

and upa govt is not only anti hindu it is pro islamic and pakistani bangladeshi centir UPA rule is curse to India
1 Mayank Patel on Feb-19 :

A great article identifying the problems, spreading the awareness and clearly identifying anti-hindu forces. Root cause of all problems is anti-hindu force"s death-grip over india"s media, academia and politics. Anti-hindu forces are interested in neither dialog nor debate.

Here are 2 easiest action an individual can perform:-

1) Act via votes, newspaper/tv subscriptions and charity choice. Choose the lesser evil (eg. choose NDA over UPA, Daily-Pioneer over TimesOfIndia, New-indian-express over the-hindu, Zee over NDTV, IDRF over any-sabrangi).

2) Provide your unbiased opinion by participating in online-forums like ivarta and wikipedia.
