2	Vanamali on Apr-11 : They say that the British brought democracy to the sub-continent. But did they give democracy only to Hindus and not to Muslims? The fact is that our religions are totally different - Abrahamic religions are King religions, God made in the image of a King. A king issues orders, commands and judgements. In those days most kings were men, so "god" must be a man. To a king keeping his throne was his only priority, so he had no use for you if you are not loyal to him. Hence the bigotry shown towards others not of his faith, calling them kafirs, pagans and infedels. You could be a Gandhi, Mother Teresa but you get hell because you are not his loyalist. Horrible values passed down just to push their religion. And of course, democracy is a total anti-thesis to a society ruled by a king. Hence you find those states that remain closest to these king religions drifting farther away from democracy. Europe discovered democracy after it learned to seperate church from state. Muslim states will never become democracies as long as they insist on pushing their religion into state affairs. Hinduism/Buddhism are the exact opposite religions, these are Parent/Teacher religions. India is a democracy because it is a Hindu nation. A teacher encourages his students to challenge her, engage in discussion, be open to new ideas. That is basically the teaching of karma. Each life is to be viewed as a journey in God"s classroon on your way to Moksha, or pure enlightened state. Not for us the pleasures of a flesh-happy heaven. One example says it all - If the Buddha had been born in Europe or muslim lands in the middle ages, he would have been branded a heretic and put to death! His teachings consigned to the fire, to be lost for all time, and there would be no Buddhism today! What do we do to the man who rejected our religion? Why, make him a God, of course!
